Why Gorkhaland doesnt look feasible at the moment?

How many members of Parliament does the Darjeeling have? You can "blackmail" the government if you have at least 10 MP's for Lok Sabha. Imagine the scenario if we had 10 MP's at the time of the trust-vote. Did you watch the MP from Nagaland speaking about what he wanted-striking when the iron was hot? Where was the LokSabha MP from Darjeeling and did he speak? The Lok Sabha is representation of the people and right now, for lakhs and lakhs of Indian Nepalis, we have only one representative in the house of the people.

There are too many factions in the hills. There is a party called ABGL (Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League) founded by DS Gurung in 1943. Even they are striving for Gorkhaland. But, they are not included by GJMM or for that matter earlier by GNLF in any major decisions. Even when there was a "birat-jansabha" in Siliguri to support Gorkhaland, they were missing or not included. They do not support strikes called by ABGL and vice-versa. Why weren't they invited with same respect? This is just an example. There is CPRM and several other parties that need to be included in the struggle but leaders are not taking the initiative.

Popularity Index of Gorkha leaders is very abysmal. How many Gorkha leaders do you trust blindly? How many leaders do you think are worthy enough to be called a leader? Everyone in GJMM is a former member of Gorkha NLF. Only the party name, flag and the top brass has changed. Talking about Ghising's shortcomings now and trusting these leaders is but an irony.

Doars? Are they prepared? Talking about including Doars is not at all justified because we need a mandate and that too a popular one. People of Kashmir are still fighting for their belief that the "Hindu" King of Kashmir acceded to India without taking consideration of majority "Muslim" masses. In a Bengali dominated area, how can we speak about Gorkhaland and talk for their behalf?

What about the plight of Bengal government? Now, Gorkhaland, then Kamtapuri, then Madhesiya, then Cooch Bihar. Well, others are just waiting in the queue. Do you think that the Bengal Government will take such a move? Never!

Lastly, drop the idea now if you are thinking of merging Sikkim and Darjeeling areas so there is no greater Sikkim Theory at all.

Roadmap/Alternative/Vision (whatever you may call!):-

Darjeeling should have its own medical college, an engineering college (IIT- why not?), a dental college and a university with special status for the Gorkha people (reservations).

Tourism in Darjeeling should be given special impetus.

Infrastructure should be revamped(build roads, clean the roads, color the walls, preserve the wonders)

Increase number of MP's for Darjeeling areas- A rarity(Depends on population).

Increase number of MLA's

Find ways to get drinking water into Kalimpong, Darjeeling and other areas.

Glorify the schools.

The main problem is unemployment leading to poverty. And that is everywhere. Logical reasoning and analysis is what is needed at the moment.

Don't you think that March 2010 is too unrealistic a deadline for Gorkhaland. It is a new fight overall. I think GJMM should look into the points as goal setting mark.

    Dear Sachin Daju,

I was very glad to receive your mail. It's such a thoughtful of you to take out some time and think for the Gorkhaland issue especially when we feel that the time is running so fast. And at the same time when we want to achieve so much. And when it comes to Gorkhaland we are no doubt passionate n emotionally guided…Only handful of people may like to think like u. Those above things written by u are very examples of very mature observations and analysis. I wud like to add a few more...

Sadly we have only one MP representing pople of darjeeling (to be precise)..We have lost an important ally ie Sikkim MP..Though BB Goroong assured and endrosed Gorkhaland as political stand from SDF but fact is that Sikkimese pple are complacent and wants to remain away from dikkats n bandhs..Nakul Rai as MP from Sikkim will say what Chamling will say.Darjeeling leader keeping their egos aside has to necessarily win hearts of Sikkim pple n especially leaders of Ruling Govt.It can be done if we change to a better MP rather than aloo MP dawa norbula..who was better in collecting rents from his flats in pradhan nagar..He is infact a weak leader despite being an advocate...People chose a wrong leader...infact weakest .We wanted atleast Dawa Norbula to atleast threaten UPa for cross voting at least for diverting central attention to Gorkhaland cause..cos its been more than 100 years seekung rightful place in india..

I m happy that Nepali in Assam in tejpur n Sadia are quite aware and progressing..perhaps Someday gangs gorkhali MP's from deradun , Bhaksu,Himachal, Salua in kharagpur, etc etc places come in picture + plus ..Sikkim, Darj MPs all integrates towards fighting for Gorkhaland under some common banner which might bring much needed awareness in parliamentary level.Manikumar Subba other Gorkhali MP from Tejpur is wing-clipped now. We watched ..while ..others demanding their various unmet demandsduring recent vote of confidence! So ur plans to augment the MPs wud be a welcoming move under any day!

Yes, ABGL was indeed great party for some decades. My old cousins (much older/dead) recollects the days voting for just to "Symbol of खुकुरी अनी दुई सिरु पात post independence. A lot of credit goes to Ari Bdr Guruns, DS Gurung ...later Deo Raj Rai(good n grt mathoo leader) etc for working for hill people. but you know somethingthat: paras mani pradhan n DS gurung(who also happens to be grandfather of by closest fren) were not exactly to be called great n mighty leaders. As story goes around that they were(on way) returned with some gratification from congress men in U P somewhere near Allabad.Their previous demand of Gorkhastan too to tell u truth was kind of Hogwash. I believe there is fairly an understanding between all hill parties save for CPM n GNLFs(which is rtnow non-existant or next to non-existant_),GJMM though having several intelligent core committee members no doubt has flaws too. I agree with u..but as political party ,,there is always likely to be difference and trying to steal each other's thunder..hehe..And for that CPRM party..i dont think its gonna emerge stronger next election...their support base/voters are there largely from कमान बस्ती !..Their leader despite being honest and dedicated cannot garner support n unite on larger scale. Sadly Mr Rai does not have proper toilet at his residence...So an idealist like himsel sudn't wash dirty laundry in public with GJM rather limit his role in tea gardens . he is fairlya good person. he is more knowledgeable regarding worker n tea planter's rite.i wish he were an actvist or and NGO head. need of hour is a Kamina leader for us like that of Bengal urban n Housing minister , Ashok Bhattacharya. I hope Bimal gurung becomes kamina (cunning)

    for the sake of Gorkhaland.

I am aslo happy that all hill party are trying to help our Chattrey Subba:

I like Bimal Gurung for the courage n receptiveness of ideas, for his stands, for somewhat Robinhood styles, manliness, .Also for his assertiveness despite being illetrate..(Mind u but not uneducated)..he happens to read a lot n accomade ideas n logics..but blindly I dont support orn trust any hill leader either..What more we can do is wait n watch policy..from far away from home..cos rite now what is more important for every person is what u do at present..but u know the guy BG is more accessible n approachable n flexible ...Say his approach of non violent method is fairly digestible compared to bloody revolutions of eighties..Sometimes non-violence works ..Gandhiji was cleaver i guess...As said by Osho "gandhi is the world's cunningest leader"..Perhaps he was rite. Our people n leaders will no doubt make mistages..as on recent times bandhs hit our economy hard..but we got to think again ..learn from mistake,,as in case of BG n GJM ..they seem to lean from mistakes.."One step back does not mean defeated. It just means that you will take the same step forward again but wiser"..I hope they do that cos they are the party to reckon with.Yes talking about Ghissing is futile..I just hate him...I wish my grand father wudn't have blessed him in times when he wud come to our house for दशैको टिका..just later only to be corrupted with power n money.I hate him.

Fight for newer states will always continue..but in our case our identity is really threathened,,,there are also many reasons for the fight to statehood..what about the historical evidences and facts. As a subba or limboo I always grew under pride and impression that we are a proud race ..and infact I was very proud for my forefathers having served in Gorkha regiments..I believe erstwhile Limboowan i.e. parts of lands of Subbas in west Sikkim,( east nepal too), n some parts of Darj bodering nepal validates the claim of Gorkhaland in india. why are we treated like foreigners in our own land..Yeah lepchas and Limboos are the old tribe of Sikkim especially. but today as Gorkha we are as amalgamed with our willingness to be Gorkha..we pay the price of being discriminated...As a son of teachers i always believed in honest actions n just n rightful living..but as u come away from home ..away from protected environment.".where is ur pride,Mr Arnav Subba ?"..these question alwasy plays in my mind..i wish to continue to live eith pride n dignity as always.....small post on limboo pple @ comment no 78 nad 79 i have posted in beacon..if u have time ..go thru it

i believe kAshmiris are basically fighting for Independent country called kashmir..there pple are not happy to be in India..What news portrays in news about indainism in kashmir is bullfart..day b4 y2dy..don't u see they wanting to go to other part of kashmir (ie POK)..i think death toll since this monday is 12 in violence..Their demand is unconstitutional n so cannot be granted...

As for our demand that being obstackled by bengal Govt's n its totalitarism...we have to give answer in time..and continue fighting battles of mind game n tactics with redoubled vigor.Even though Doars being part of bijayapur kingdom is quie difficult due to bengali dominance..but we too have support there...but more difficult task is to get ..yes popular mandate..from Advashis n mechi bengalis....We got to win their hearts.....BG and histeam has to think of plans n schemes of appeasement for general populace of Doars..which is though difficult but not impossible.

yes daju person like u n me has to grow..infact i want every Gorkhay to progress n prosper ..make name, have identity...have say in India..We deserve a rightful place..why not?

I feel that whenever our pple .whenever our people come to far places away from Sikkim or Darjeeling..Our elders, especially female members ie sisters, mothers etc to be given due respect ..n not looked down upon as some poor n puny people from foreign country called Nepal. Why do others consider us below contempt ? despite we being ingenous n honest. think of punjabi's wife or mother (or any other Indian's ) Do anyone dare to disrespect them? i guess not. When Gorkhaland will come true..then we can also come to main indian stream of developing india par with other already developed community.

What bout the justice of 1200 + martyrs who laid lives for the sake of Gorkhaland.

just a line for them by agam singh Giri's poem

    हुदैना बिहान मीर- मीरमा तारा झरेरर नगय
बन्दैना मुलुक दुई चार सपूत मरेर नगय ! (though this was written for Chiya bari ko sahidharu..who all died asking/protesting for hike or bonus)

Atleast theyand their family should be compensated..See for muslims killed in Riots get 5 lakh..why our case is neglected...We are fortunate to have our providing parents and supportive n strong family background. I feel sad for rest of people.. If I want I can rest n rust n stay complacent, with tribal previleges..but i wish too see every Gorkhas having smile in their lips n pride in eyes...in future..as we have forgotten to live with courage n pride. We have learn to adjust with harrasement n hassels?

What bout the our people, elders , ladies n men(even sum children) who were humbuled while having peaceful hunger strikes in plains..? where is justice?

What bout small innocent school children targeted while just taking out victory rally in Siliguri? was it there mistake to come in celebration rally...(Thanks to Indian army for saving that day)

Worse thing ex armymen beaten by Police + stone pelted by Siliguri goons n bengladeshis.

by the way do you know Mahabert Subba? i have mentioned in a topic called :

    A PEEP AT SILIGARHI'S HISTORY.

    http://www.orkut.co.in/CommMsgs.aspx?cmm=31391138&tid=5208764967417753049
    have a look!

Worst were days when nepali(ie Gorkhali) grls staying in some rented rooms were not spared during communal clashes last time ..(this year..u recall.)..they were soft targets of these goons of Amra bengali, .BOBBBC, JJM, JCM etc. Girls were made to do उठ बस ..those who try to fight back were beaten,,slapped..n molested too....we know the victims and as well as know how to get to those oppressors....know how to hit back ..know how to punish them paticularly leaving other bhadraloks..only thing my hands are clipped..Time will give answer..time is best answer..Will stab when iron is hot!.

Daju we have to reach the consummate level in most of the fileds..We got to beat them positively. As said by economist Adam Smith..We as people has to develop n grow at micro level first n rest it will consecuently reflect in macro level..then days for Gorkhaland will now be far..just belive in ur dreams if u have..

Your points alternative/visions are welcome anyday under sun...but believe me da that jobs n opportunities will increase for overy one by 10 folds if we can achieve what we dream for..I hope we can achieve some day...even if unrealistic deadline of 2011 is passed..future beholds..on us!

High Economics in our Statehood Demand..

it true that really strong and all round developments can take place only after the state is formed..bengal is afraid of losing fiefdom!

lastly let's HOPE for the better ..lets hope for Gorkhaland..Hope sees the truth ..feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.lets keep the hope alive...lets remove the deadweight of despair inside our ribcaze if any against Gorkhaland! which ritenow seems unrealistic for many of us.One fine day..One fine day....

    regards

    Arnav Bhai

  2. I would have to say that I am emotionally connected to all the people fighting for Gorkhaland. I am a Nepali and I can understand the similarities we share. I wish you all the best for the movement and hope one day we will have Gorkhaland as an independent state.
