National Games Village Koramangala Bangalore Swimming pool- A review!

Located at the NGV complex(close to the new passport office), this pool is a delightful respite for almost everyone, looking for a decent pool and without the need to pay a lakh+ for membership.

From Indian pool standards, one can say that the pool is maintained just about fine. Weekly maintenance is done every Monday. They recycle the water but one can still find slippery floor at certain areas inside the pool. It has showers but the change room is pretty dirty. The toilets aren't clean either.

I find the rules funny. One is allowed swim without proper swimming gears but if you land up at half past an hour, you need to wait till it reaches the hour because one batch is scheduled at every hour. If "half-pant" crowd are not allowed then there wont be a need to have the waiting time. I have raised this concern in the past but action hasn't been taken till date.

A snacks counter is present close to swimming pool where you can buy ice creams and popcorn. Beer might also be available-I haven’t asked but at times have seen people drinking!

During summer season, there are swimming camps for kids and adults. The pool opens at six and closes by seven, except on Monday.

The hourly swimming rates have now increased to Rs. 100 from Rs. 70. This is pretty expensive on evaluating the overall satisfaction metrics. You can also avail a monthly pass at Rs. 1500.

MORE ON NGV…

I learnt swimming in NGV pool. My immediate friend circle is a big group of 10-12 people and most of us didn’t know to swim. So, in the year 2007 early spring, we came to know of this pool in NGV. And within some days, all of us knew how to swim.

Here are the videos of me swimming, some dates back to the year 2007:-

    1. Dear NGV team.. My name is Nelofer Zehra.. I have been visiting your pool since past 10 days with the intention of joining. I am a hydrophobic but still ready face my fear, But unfortunately my past few visits have been pathetic.. Your one of your swimming coach name Kiran has been highly demotivating bcoz I can see one such person who I think is a hydrophobic too hasn't been getting any kinda motivation your coach has been pathetic. Why does he keep shouting and screaming on top of his voice ? Do you'll know what the term coach means? If the answer is yes I think you should make Mr. Kiran understand too. Otherwise change him to the other guy whose present there.. He's a little on the healthier side and the conversation with him has motivated me to join not this other guy. Oh my god he has some serious issues. Am already a hydrophobic and this guy will kill me more.

Please speak to him or give a necessary feedback.

Hey thanks for the review...just wanted to know if they have separate timings or do they also have unisex timings also??

  4. Hi there Anonymous,

    You are welcome!
They don't have specific timings as such for women for most part of the year but during summer(peak season), usually, they have exclusive women hours.

The crowd is pretty decent and behaved so at any time, you can find lot of women, kids and men in the pool.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Checked it out; works from 7 am (not sure if it is 6 am) until 8 pm in night. 1pm -2 pm is for lunch.

    Good place.

No lockers; you have to figure out how to keep your valuable items safe.

100 Rs you have to pay in office and then jump in

    water is reasonable good

    good view

Reasonably large sized pool although not as big as the Jaya nagar pool.

    Parking is not an issue

  14. Hi,
I want to learn swimming... I don't have any prior experience in this field... I was thinking of registering in NGV... I wanted some info regarding the following points:

    1. Are there good instructors???
    2. What is the fee structure???
    3. I cannot go on weekends because of other important commitments. The only time possible for me is weekday mornings, preferably betweeen 6am and 8 am. Is it possible???
    4. Are there any important prerequisites to be considered before joining the swimming class???

I will be anticipating your reply.

    Thanks.

buying a Flat in NGV is a very unwise decision as the blocks are built on a lake bed area and the condition of those flats need massive repairs in the long run.

Although the charges for usage differs from a member to a non-member, one need NOT be a member to use the NGV Builders Club Swimmimng Pool in NGV, Koramangala. Tel No. of their Office which might be useful: 25702247.

  23. Hi Aishu,

You would need to check out at NGV itself. I stay at Banaswadi nowadays and visit the pool once in a blue-moon.

Of late, I have seen only children getting coached.

I know that Monday is off but if you are looking at 6 pm to 8 pm timings, you might just get the last slot. I believe the pool closes by 7 pm.

    Thanks,
    Sash

Swimming pool is good, but learning experience depends on coach you get. I went in 2009 and opening statement of the coach[appeared senior coach] was "If we throw animals in water, even they are also able to swim and I have to teach you". only around 6 days he came inside swimming pool, rest of the days he used to give instruction from outside in 15 days program.
